The Grumpy Slovakian Railtour

After a break of ten years (yes 10) we now return to Slovakia with our train. Although we completed a Western Slovakia tour by service train in 2017 and a combination road/rail tour of the West in 2023, our last was the ‘Iron Grinder’ in 2016, covering the North and East of the country. The two main reasons for such a wide gap were Covid and also a problem with the registration of our locomotive and stock when we decided to graduate from our Class 850 Railcar to the current locomotive and load 2.
We are pleased to offer this intensive itinerary, travelling in the comfort and convenience of our own train, visiting ZSSK depots, industrial locations and transversing freight only lines plus, as always, a few pleasant little surprises along the way. In keeping with all previous tours, this is another where you will enjoy lunch every travelling day, and unlimited refreshments in the form of snacks and drinks, the cost of which is included in your fare. Indeed, with your breakfast, also included, your only essential personal expense will be your evening meal.

We will again be using comfortable and convenient hotels, all of which we have used in the past.

• Sunday 6th September – Arrival day. No planned activities except evening briefing. Overnight – Brno
• Monday 7th September – Dolni Depot – Breclav Depot – Kuty – Zahor, for Zahorska branch line – Bratislava Hlavna Depot – Bratislava Vychod – Bratislava HlSt. Overnight – Bratislava.
• Tuesday 8th September – Nove Zamky Depot – Zvolen Works – Zvolen Depot. Overnight – Zvolen.
• Wednesday 9th September – Chvatimech Industrial – CHZ Cierny Baiog including Depots at Cierny Baiog & Dobroc – Brezno Depot – Filakovo Depot  – Plesivec Depot – Kosice Depot. Overnight – Kosice
• Thursday 10th September – US Steel – Haniska Depot – Cierna nad Tisou Depot – Trebisov Works – Matovce Depot – Humenne Depot Overnight – Kosice.
• Friday 11th September  – Spisska Nova Ves Depot – Poprad Tatry Depot & a round trip of the complete Narrow Gauge system – Zilina Depot. Overnight – Zilina
• Saturday 12th September – SZVM Veseli nad Moravou – Brno Malomerice Depot – Brno Horni Herspice Depot – Dolni Depot. Overnight – Brno
• Sunday 13th September – Dispersal
